Why Everyone Is Talking About XERF™ Skin Tightening Right Now XERF™ skin tightening is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about non-surgical aesthetic treatments, and much of that momentum has come from recent celebrity attention and media coverage. From mentions by Kim Kardashian to features in major beauty publications and mainstream outlets, XERF™ is gaining recognition as a next-generation approach to skin tightening and facial rejuvenation. XERF™ in the Spotlight: Celebrity and Media Attention Recently, XERF™ gained widespread attention after Kim Kardashian shared on social media that she was trying the treatment, referring to it as her “new fave tightening laser.” While often casually referred to as a “laser,” XERF™ is actually a radiofrequency-based treatment designed to stimulate collagen and tighten the skin without damaging the surface layer. This kind of exposure matters. When high-profile figures highlight a treatment, it often accelerates awareness, but it also brings more scrutiny and interest from patients looking for real, lasting results. Featured in Beauty and Medical Media XERF™ hasn’t just been circulating on social media. It has also been covered by respected outlets such as TODAY, where dermatologists and experts have discussed how the treatment works and why it’s gaining traction. Media coverage consistently highlights a few key points: It is a non-invasive treatment with minimal downtime It uses radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen production It is designed to tighten skin while preserving facial volume More recently, XERF™ has also been featured in industry publications and wellness platforms as part of a broader shift toward treatments that deliver natural-looking results without surgery. Why XERF™ Is Gaining Popularity There are a few reasons XERF™ is seeing rapid growth in demand: 1. Non-Surgical Skin Tightening Patients are increasingly looking for options that avoid surgery, needles, and extended downtime. XERF™ fits directly into that category. 2. Focus on Natural Results Rather than dramatic or artificial changes, XERF™ works by stimulating your body’s own collagen production, leading to gradual, natural-looking improvement. 3. Comfort and Convenience Many patients and providers note that treatments are well-tolerated, often without the need for anesthesia, and can be completed in under an hour. A Trend, But Not Just Hype Celebrity attention can bring visibility, but it doesn’t guarantee effectiveness. What’s notable about XERF™ is that it aligns with a broader trend in dermatology toward energy-based treatments that target deeper structures of the skin while maintaining surface integrity. This approach allows for: Collagen remodeling at multiple depths Improved firmness and elasticity over time Minimal disruption to daily life These are the same principles driving the growth of many modern skin tightening technologies. What Patients Should Actually Take Away If you’re hearing about XERF™ because of celebrities or media coverage, the key question isn’t who is talking about it, it’s whether the treatment is appropriate for your skin and goals. XERF™ may be a good option if you are looking for: Mild to moderate skin tightening Improvement in fine lines and skin texture A non-invasive treatment with little to no downtime The best way to determine if it’s right for you is through a personalized consultation with a dermatology provider experienced in energy-based treatments. XERF™ Now Available at Mandel Dermatology As XERF™ continues to gain attention nationwide, Mandel Dermatology is proud to offer this advanced treatment at select locations, including the Upper East Side and Long Island . Patients can schedule consultations online to learn more about the treatment, expected results, and whether XERF™ fits into their overall skin care plan. Final Thoughts XERF™ is a good example of how aesthetic treatments often move, from early adoption and clinical use to celebrity visibility and broader public awareness. While mentions from figures like Kim Kardashian and coverage in outlets like TODAY help bring attention to the treatment, its long-term value will ultimately come down to results, safety, and patient satisfaction. If you’ve ever looked closely at your medical bill, you may have noticed a time listed next to your visit code—like “45 minutes” for a 99204 or 99214 . Some patients wonder, “Why am I being billed for a 45-minute visit when my appointment only lasted 20 minutes?” This is a very common question, and the short answer is: the time listed in the code name is part of the federal description of the code—not how your bill was calculated. Let’s break it down. 1. What Those Numbers Mean Every medical visit is assigned a billing code called a CPT code , which stands for Current Procedural Terminology. These codes are created and standardized by the American Medical Association (AMA) and used nationwide by all insurance companies and healthcare providers. For example: 99204 – New patient visit, moderate to high complexity (CMS includes “45-59 minutes”) 99214 – Established patient visit, moderate complexity (CMS includes “30-39 minutes”) That time you see in parentheses—“45-59 minutes”—is part of the AMA and CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) official code description , not a reflection of how long your visit actually lasted. 2. Dermatologists Bill by Complexity, Not Time In dermatology (and most medical specialties), office visits are billed based on medical decision-making (MDM) —the complexity of the evaluation, diagnosis, and management—not the duration of the visit. That means your bill reflects: The number and seriousness of the conditions addressed The data reviewed or tests ordered The risk of complications or management decisions It does not depend on how long you were in the exam room. 3. Why CMS Includes “Typical Time” CMS includes a “typical time” with each code to help describe the average amount of time a provider might spend on that type of visit in total , including: Reviewing your chart before the visit Documenting your note afterward Ordering labs or prescriptions Coordinating care or referrals So even if your face-to-face time was short, your provider may have spent significant time behind the scenes managing your care. 4. Example Let’s say your dermatologist sees you for a changing mole. They take your history, review prior biopsy results, perform a detailed skin exam, document findings, and decide that a biopsy is needed. Even if that visit took only 15–20 minutes in person, the complexity of the medical decision supports a code like 99214 , which CMS labels as a “30-39 minute” visit. 5. What to Remember The “minutes” listed on your bill are not a timer or clock of your visit . Your dermatologist bills based on medical complexity , as required by national coding rules. Every practice in the U.S. uses the same CPT codes and definitions set by the AMA and CMS.
